Northeast Trip (page 11)

Our first activity with the Raleigh Stolees was to attend Claire's Wolf Walk-a-thon. This was a fundraiser for her school (Fred C Olds School).

She ran some and walked some.

She ran about 14 laps.

She was excited to see Grandma at the finish line.

We got permission to have lunch with Claire.

Claire went back to her school day. We took a tour of nearby Pullen Park.

They had a fun little train running through the park.

This statue of Andy Griffith and Ron Howard was donated to the city. Another city that thought they were the home of Mayberry got so upset they ultimately had to get their own copy.

Then we headed over to the North Carolina Museum of Art. This was my favorite piece.

I made a quilt of myself to help get Becky's attention.

We logged another State Capitol (Raleigh) before heading back to Derrick and Katie's for supper.

Becky gave them this 1000 piece puzzle.

She always has crafts for the kids to try.

On Saturday morning we followed them around to their very scheduled day. It started with Cora's soccer practice.

Cora's fan club.

Next was Claire's basketball practice.

They taught all the skills: Dribbling, passing, shooting and defense.

In the afternoon we were off to Claire's soccer game.

Sunday started with a relaxed morning and we got back together in the afternoon.

The big event of the afternoon was the Buddy Walk for the North Carolina Down's Syndrome Alliance.

They had all kinds of fun things for kids to do.

This is the mascot for the minor league baseball team in Raleigh. He is called "Little Muddy" and is a catfish. The team is called the Carolina Mudcats.

The actual walk starts at 3:21 (for trisomy 21) and runs for 0.21 miles. We were on team Mello Kello and Kellen is in the center of the picture.

The kids are friends at school.

When we got back to their house, we found they had finished the puzzle!

Sunday evening we went to watch the North Carolina Courage play in a quarter-final game.

Derrick and Katie will have season tickets next year. The team played well but was eliminated.
